Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 1.5L

The Brunello di Montalcino from Biondi-Santi is no ordinary wine from Tuscany — it is the origin of this category. Ferruccio Biondi-Santi cultivated the Sangiovese Grosso grape variety as a single variety at the Il Greppo estate near Montalcino at the end of the 19th century, thereby establishing Brunello as an independent wine category. To this day, the winery works according to the same principles: strict selection, minimal intervention, maximum patience.

The 2018 vintage shows what Montalcino can achieve in a cooler year: a Brunello with freshness and energy instead of warmth and fullness. On the nose, dried cherry, pomegranate, and a hint of tobacco, beneath which lies the iron minerality typical of Biondi-Santi. On the palate, firmly structured, fine-grained tannins, lively acidity, and a long, tart-spicy finish with notes of lavender and cedarwood. The 1.5-liter magnum bottling matures more evenly and slowly than the standard bottle — an advantage for those who want to give this wine time.

At the table, it pairs with braised wild boar leg, Bistecca alla Fiorentina, or aged Pecorino di Pienza. Drinking temperature: 17–18 °C, decanted at least one hour before pouring.
