From Erna and Heinrich to Ulrich and Johanna: four generations at the Nahe
Weingut Lorenz & Söhne has its origins in the 1950s, when Erna and Heinrich Lorenz established a mixed agricultural farm with arable farming and livestock in Bosenheim on the outskirts of Bad Kreuznach. In the 1980s, their son Werner set the decisive change of course: he focused on the vinification of the grapes and the direct marketing of the wines. The mixed farm became a winery with a clear profile. Today, Ulrich Lorenz, a state-certified technician for viticulture and cellar management, runs the winery in the fourth generation together with his wife Johanna, deeply rooted in the region and the profession. The heart of the family universe is the approximately 800-year-old Bonnheimer Hof in Hackenheim, which today serves as a country restaurant and event location, providing a stage for the wines.
Terroir by conviction: work in the vineyard and cellar
The vineyards are located around Bosenheim and Bad Kreuznach, including sites such as Kreuznacher Paradies and Kreuznacher Rosenberg. Calcareous clay sludge, gravelly and sandy loam form the changing soils that give the Nahe its geologically multifaceted character. From vine care to winemaking and bottling, everything is done in-house and in a nature-oriented way. In the cellar, Ulrich Lorenz relies on state-of-the-art cellar technology combined with artisanal care: each plot is vinified individually, and the origin should remain readable in the glass. The ambition to produce wines that reflect both the terroir and the signature of the winemaking family runs like a common thread through the entire working method.
Riesling to red wine: an assortment that shows the Nahe in its full breadth
The assortment ranges from off-dry Rieslings with the characteristic Nahe minerality to creamy Burgundy varieties and international grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. In doing so, Lorenz & Söhne reflects exactly what distinguishes the Nahe from other German wine regions: a geological and stylistic diversity that is rarely found in such a concentrated form in any other wine-growing region. Wines such as the off-dry Riesling or the red wine cuvée Punktlandung show the range of the winery — fresh, accessible everyday wines on one side, structured, characterful bottles on the other.
