L'Ormarins L'Ormarins Brut Classique NV

L'Ormarins –
Franschhoek terroir with South African precision

L'Ormarins is located in the Franschhoek Valley, one of South Africa's oldest and most prestigious wine regions. Founded in 1694 by Huguenot settlers, the estate is now owned by the Rupert family, who have consistently developed it into one of the Cape's leading wineries since the 1970s. The combination of cool mountain breezes from the Franschhoek Pass, well-drained granite and schist soils, and long ripening periods shapes the distinctive style of the wines.

In the cellar, the team works according to a clear philosophy: minimal intervention, maximum expression of terroir. The red wines – including powerful Cabernet Sauvignons and structured Shiraz blends – mature in French oak barrels and display dark berry fruit, subtle spice, and a long, dry finish. The white wines, especially Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay, benefit from the high altitude and contribute a vibrant acidity that makes them ideal companions to seafood and light poultry.

Franschhoek means “French corner” in Dutch – a name that still fits today: L'Ormarins' wines combine Cape strength with an elegance that is more reminiscent of the Rhône or Bordeaux than of the New World in the classic sense.
