Kaapzicht was first mentioned in 1712 as "Friesland" and came into the possession of the Steytler family in 1946. The name was chosen because of the magnificent views of Cape Town and Table Mountain from the vineyard slopes. Kaapzicht Estate is a typical family business where all family members work together: A few years ago, Danie Steytler, a passionate, hardworking, and creative winemaker, followed in his father Daan's footsteps. His mother, Yngvild, is responsible for the worldwide export markets. The wines grown and bottled on the estate have been offered under the Kaapzicht label since 1984.

About Kaapzicht Estate

Kaapzicht Estate —
Family winery at the foot of Table Mountain

Kaapzicht Estate is located on the slopes of Stellenbosch, with an unobstructed view of Cape Town and Table Mountain — hence the name, which simply means "Cape view" in Afrikaans. First mentioned in documents in 1712 as "Friesland," the estate has been owned by the Steytler family since 1946 and has developed during this time from a farmstead into one of the most famous family businesses in the region.

Today, all generations work under one roof: Danie Steytler has taken over the role of cellar master from his father Daan and brings his own signature to it — precise work in the vineyard, careful selection, wines that reflect the character of the soils of Stellenbosch. His mother Yngvild is responsible for global exports and ensures that the estate's wines are present in over a dozen markets.

Since 1984, the wines grown and bottled on the estate have appeared under the Kaapzicht label — a promise of origin and craftsmanship from one of South Africa's most traditional wine regions.
