Kaapzicht Estate Kliprug Chenin Blanc

This Chenin Blanc comes from the Bottelary Hills near Stellenbosch, one of the oldest wine-growing regions in South Africa. Kaapzicht Estate has been managed by the Steytler family for several generations and is one of the estates that relies on old, unirrigated bush vines – Kliprug refers to the stony ridge of the vineyard from which the grapes originate.

The old vines produce concentrated, small-berried Chenin Blanc, which is known for its density and texture. In the glass, ripe quince appears alongside citrus peel, plus a hint of honey and toasted almond, which indicate aging in wooden barrels. On the palate, the wine feels creamy, carried by a taut acidity structure that ensures balance. The finish is long, with a slightly salty, mineral note.

Best served at 10 to 12 °C. The wine accompanies grilled poultry, fried fish, or mild curry dishes with coconut milk. It also pairs well with aged goat cheese or as a food companion for a mild evening outdoors.

Kaapzicht Estate

Kaapzicht was first mentioned in 1712 as "Friesland" and came into the possession of the Steytler family in 1946. The name was chosen because of the magnificent view from the slopes of the vineyards over Cape Town and Table Mountain.

Kaapzicht Estate is a typical family business in which all family members work together: A few years ago, Danie Steytler followed in his father Daan's footsteps as a passionate, hardworking, and creative winemaker. His mother Yngvild is responsible for the global export markets.

The wines grown and bottled on the estate have been offered under the Kaapzicht label since 1984.
