Gnarly Head is a wine brand from California that takes its name from the gnarled, old vines that root in the vineyards of the Central Valley and the Lodi region. These old vines – some over 50 years old – have to reach deep into the soil to find water. The result is concentrated grapes with low yield, but a lot of expression.
In the glass, there are powerful, accessible wines: the Zinfandel with dark berry fruits and a hint of pepper, the Cabernet Sauvignon with blackberry and soft tannins. The style is direct and uncomplicated – not polished to the point of unrecognizability, but with the rough texture that old vines bring. Gnarly Head is aimed at everyone who likes Californian wine without detours: open, full-bodied, drinkable.
