Gnarly Head Pinot Noir

Gnarly Head Pinot Noir
A Californian Pinot Noir from Lodi that impresses with lively fruit, mineral freshness and pleasant approachability — uncomplicated in the best sense.
Gnarly Head comes from Lodi in California's Central Valley, a region with a warm continental climate, large day-night temperature fluctuations, and deep sandy soils. These conditions produce Pinot Noir grapes with ripe fruit and naturally low yields. For years, the label has stood for easy-drinking wines from old vines—approachable, honest, and unpretentious.
In the glass, it displays a medium-deep ruby red color. On the nose, it opens with notes of red cherry, orange zest, and a delicate herbal spice—followed by a restrained stone fruit character. On the palate, it is juicy and lively: medium-bodied, with soft, well-integrated tannins and an invigorating acidity without any harshness. The texture is fine and smooth. The finish reveals a subtle mineral salinity, a hint of candied bitter orange, and a lingering aftertaste of cherry and stone fruit—longer than one would expect.
Serving temperature 14–16 °C. No significant aging potential — best enjoyed now. Pairs well with pasta al pomodoro, grilled salmon with herb butter, pinsa with goat cheese, or a mild Tomme.
