Fincas Valdemar
Fincas Valdemar –
between Rioja tradition and Ribera del Duero
Fincas Valdemar represents two faces of Spanish wine culture: The Martínez Bujanda family has established itself over decades as a reliable name in Rioja with Bodegas Valdemar – with wines that combine classic structure and regional identity.
In 2011, Jesús and Ana Martínez Bujanda ventured into the Ribera del Duero region . In Nava de Roa, on sandy-siliceous soils with a mild microclimate, they create wines with a different character: fresher, more mineral, reflecting the ambition of a region that only received DOC status in 1982 and has been steadily gaining in profile ever since. Each parcel is vinified separately, and aging takes place in barriques – meticulously crafted, without any template.
The result is red wines that showcase Tempranillo in two very different expressions: the mature elegance of Rioja on the one hand, and the cool fruit and straightforwardness of the high-altitude Ribera on the other. Those who know both understand why Spain is more than just a region.
