Château Montrose

Château Montrose is located in the north of the Médoc, directly on the Gironde — a location that provides the estate with a particularly balanced microclimate and has formed the basis for one of the most characterful styles in Bordeaux for almost two centuries. As a Second Growth of Saint-Estèphe, Montrose stands in an appellation known for power and longevity — and the estate embodies these qualities more consistently than most of its neighbors.

The wines of Montrose are not ones that open up immediately. Young vintages show dense, dark fruit — cassis, blackberry, a hint of cedar — embedded in a tannin structure that can last for decades. Over time, this structure changes: the fruit becomes more complex, the spice deeper, the tannin finer. Anyone who drinks a Montrose too early does not really know it.

In the cellar, the team works with classic Bordeaux methods: mash fermentation in stainless steel and wood, aging in French barriques, and a careful blending process that uses Cabernet Sauvignon as a backbone, supplemented by Merlot and Petit Verdot. The result is a wine that demands patience — and rewards it with a complexity that hardly any other appellation achieves.
