Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry —
Margaux made from gravel, limestone and Cabernet

Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry lies in the heart of Margaux , on 23.5 hectares of gravel, limestone, and clay soils with iron-rich deposits—a terroir that gives the wine its characteristic structure and depth. The vineyard is spread across gentle slopes, and the vines are on average 35 years old. The blend is classic Bordeaux: 50 percent Cabernet Sauvignon as the backbone, complemented by 35 percent Merlot for body, 10 percent Cabernet Franc, and 5 percent Petit Verdot for spice and color.

Winemaking takes place in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel tanks, and aging lasts 14 to 16 months in French oak barrels—80 to 100 percent new. This results in wines with a pronounced oak structure, which in good vintages coalesces into a dense yet elegant character. Among the strongest vintages are 2016, 2015, 2010, 2009, and 2005. Older bottles from 2000, 1961, or 1959 are rare, but a worthwhile quest for collectors and lovers of classic Bordeaux.

The second wine , La Dame de Malescot, follows the same style but is more approachable in its youth—a good introduction to the estate's approach. Both wines pair well with robust meat dishes, aged hard cheeses, or a long evening with time to savor a glass.
