Château du Tertre –
Margaux with character and depth
Château du Tertre is located on the highest point of the Margaux appellation – an advantage you can feel in the glass: the elevation protects the vines from late frosts, the gravelly soils drain quickly and evenly, and nearby streams regulate the water balance. 52 contiguous hectares around the castle, in the immediate vicinity of Cantenac-Brown and Giscours.
Since 1997, the estate has belonged to Eric Albada Jelgersma, who fundamentally renewed the vineyards and cellar without giving up the historical character of the property. What drove him was not a reinvention, but a return to the roots: to the terroir, to the original personality of a winery that is one of the Cinquièmes Grands Crus Classés of 1855.
The wines of Château du Tertre show what makes Margaux – elegance without heaviness, structure with suppleness. A red wine for evenings when there is something to celebrate, but also for the quiet moment with a good piece of meat or aged cheese.
