Château Lagrange –
Grand Cru Classé from the heart of Saint-Julien
Château Lagrange is located in the center of Saint-Julien, one of the most concentrated appellations of the Médoc – wedged between Margaux in the south and Pauillac in the north, on the left bank of the Gironde. The soil here is deeply aerated gravel that stores heat, drains water quickly, and gives the vines exactly that controlled stress that brings depth to the fruit.
Since the Bordeaux Classification of 1855 under Napoleon III, Lagrange has held the rank of 3ème Grand Cru Classé – and the vineyard boundaries have remained unchanged since then. The winery has belonged to the Japanese Suntory Group since 1983, which has fundamentally renovated it and expanded the vineyards to over 110 hectares without abandoning the classic Médoc signature. The cellar master and team work with long maceration times and careful barrique aging to translate the structure of the terroir into the wine.
In the glass, the Lagrange wines show what makes Saint-Julien: dark berry fruit, cedar wood, a firm tannin structure, and a length that takes time and rewards it. Recommendation: rack of lamb, duck breast, or aged Comté – and a drinking window that you can certainly take full advantage of.
