About Cascina San Giovanni

From Switzerland to the hills of the Southern Piedmont

A good thirty years ago, the story of Cascina San Giovanni began on an old farm in the gentle hills of the Southern Piedmont — surrounded by orchards and hazelnut groves, nestled in the municipality of Rocchetta Belbo in the province of Cuneo. What started as a family craft business quickly outgrew itself: demand for the regional specialties rose rapidly, and production moved to its own facility on the outskirts of Rocchetta Belbo. Since 2013, Sabine and Dominik Suter have been running the manufactory. In addition to their deep connection to Italy, the two Swiss bring years of experience from the hotel and catering industry — a combination you can feel in every glass and every jar.

Respect for raw materials, region, and recipe

The foundation of the work at Cascina San Giovanni is long-standing supplier relationships: for over 25 years, the manufactory has been working with the same farmers in the region. This not only ensures consistent quality of the ingredients but also anchors production firmly in the agricultural fabric of the Southern Piedmont. The recipes come from the Piedmontese culinary tradition — from the so-called Cucina della Nonna, the grandmothers' home cooking, which is based on fresh, seasonal ingredients without frills. Additives are consistently avoided; the products are free of artificial preservatives. The staff structure also speaks for a stable, down-to-earth corporate culture: the longest-serving team member has been working for the company for 25 years.

Piedmontese pantry in a jar

The range from Cascina San Giovanni reflects the breadth of the Northern Italian pantry: aromatic pestos — including the classic basil pesto and a robust arugula pesto — savory spreads for bruschetta and crostini, pickled antipasti such as capers preserved in salt or peperoncini stuffed with tuna, as well as dried porcini mushrooms, which are suitable as a base for risotto and pasta. In addition, there are pasta, risotto, honey, jams, vinegar, and spices from Piedmont. All products are handcrafted in Rocchetta Belbo and are now available throughout Europe. In our shop, you will find a selection of the most popular gourmet classics — from bruschetta spread to crema di peperoncini.

Cascina San Giovanni —
Craftsmanship from southern Piedmont

Cascina San Giovanni is located amidst orchards and hazelnut groves in southern Piedmont — a region that is at least as well known for its products as it is for its wines. For over 25 years, pasta, pesto, antipasti, and sugo have been created here according to recipes that come from Nonna's kitchen and have never found their way into industrial production.

What distinguishes the range: short distances from the field to the pot. The ingredients come from the immediate vicinity — fresh vegetables, regional herbs, Piedmontese hazelnuts — and are processed artisanally, without compromises on season or origin. You can taste it: in the texture of the pasta, in the freshness of the pesto, in the depth of a slowly boiled-down sugo.

Anyone who loves the cuisine of Northern Italy will find products here that are not meant to be a side dish, but the center of a meal. On the table with a Barbera d'Asti or a young Dolcetto, it makes for an evening that needs no further explanation.
