The idyllic Menfitana coast is the stage for Sicily's quality revolution in red, white, and, of course, rosé wines. It began in 1958 when a group of winegrowers joined forces to escape their dependence on the large wineries and founded their own winegrowers' cooperative. This newly established cooperative called Cantine Settesoli, a name that alluded to the diverse and varied soil types found in the vineyards.

Cantine Settesoli –
Cooperative winemakers on the Menfitana coast

Cantine Settesoli was founded in 1958 when a group of Sicilian winegrowers around Menfi joined forces to become independent of the large wineries. What began as an act of self-determination is now one of the defining cooperatives of Sicily – with members whose vineyards lie on the diverse soils of the Menfitana coast: clay, sand, limestone, some with direct sea influence.

The name Settesoli refers to this soil diversity – "sette suoli," seven soils – and remains the guiding principle today. The sites near the Mediterranean produce wines with clear fruit, natural freshness, and a character that lives less from heaviness than from precision. Nero d'Avola, Grillo, Catarratto, and Syrah are among the varieties that ripen particularly convincingly here.

The philosophy of the cooperative combines collective craftsmanship with modern cellar development: every winemaker manages their plots independently, and vinification follows clear quality standards. The result is wines that bring the character of western Sicily directly into the glass – accessible, but with substance.
