Ziggurat Montefalco Rosso DOC

Montefalco Rosso — this is Sagrantino country in the heart of Umbria, but in a more accessible form: this DOC combines Sangiovese with a portion of Sagrantino and shows how much character the hills between Assisi and Spoleto can provide.

Tenuta Castelbuono belongs to the Lunelli family, known for Ferrari Trento. In Montefalco, they pursue the same principles: careful hand-harvesting, controlled vinification, and aging in small wooden barrels. The Ziggurat—named after the striking sculptural building on the estate—is their entry into the region's red wines.

In the glass, aromas of dark cherry, dried plum, and a hint of tobacco are revealed, along with delicate notes of clove and cedar. The body is medium-firm, the tannins are present but not harsh. The acidity keeps the wine lively, and the finish lingers with a slightly balsamic note.

Serving suggestion: Pasta al Ragù, porchetta, lamb with herbs, or aged pecorino. Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Drinkable now, will easily keep until 2027.

A complex, full-bodied wine.

Very complex, complex wine with a nice body. The acid-sugar balance is balanced, and when aerated, the harmonious fruit taste almost increases. Cherry, clove notes, plums with some vanilla, some wo...

Tenuta Castelbuono

Tenuta Castelbuono is located in the heart of Umbria – a landscape that must be seen at least once: rolling hills, ancient olive groves, and in the middle of it all, a winery owned by the Lunelli family, which remarkably combines tradition and modern ambition.

Here, around the medieval Carapace Tower – designed by sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro – grows Sagrantino , the distinctive soul of this region. The Lunellis give it the time it needs. The result: wines with depth, structure, and a long finish that lingers long after the last sip.
