A sweet wine from Hungary that remains fresh: The Tokaji Aszú 3 Puttonyos from Tokaj-Oremus shows clear aromas, fine floral notes, and citrus accents. All of this is carried by lively acidity. The 0.5-liter bottle is enough for an evening for two.

Tokaj-Oremus is based in Tolcsva in the heart of the Tokaj wine region and has belonged since 1993 to the Álvarez family, who also manage the Spanish winery Vega Sicilia. The 2022 vintage brought good conditions for noble-rot Aszú berries. These are botrytis-affected, shriveled berries that give the wine concentration and sweetness. The 3 stands for the Puttonyos level, i.e., for the proportion of these berries. Within the Aszú scale, it means a rather restrained sweetness.

In the glass, floral scent and citrus peel meet a velvety texture. The acidity keeps the sweetness in balance and gives the wine drive into the finish. Serve it at 8 to 10 °C. It pairs well with duck liver, blue cheese like Roquefort, or an apricot tart. As a dessert in a glass, it also works all on its own.
