Tapada de Villar Alentejo Tinto DO

An accessible Alentejo red wine from the house of Esporão — full-fruited, soft, and uncomplicated in the best sense.

Herdade do Esporão is one of the most well-known wineries in Portugal. The Herdade in the heart of the Alentejo comprises over 700 hectares, of which around 180 hectares are vineyards on red slate soil. Since the 1990s, the business has stood for reliable craftsmanship quality — from the entry-level wine to the Reserva line.

The Tapada de Villar shows the typical profile of the region in the glass: dark cherries, blackberry, and a slight smoky note from the oak barrel. The tannins are ripe and supple, the acidity moderate — which makes it drinkable even without accompaniment. The finish is short to medium-length, fresh, and without heaviness.

As part of Portugal's Montado ecosystem in the Alentejo region, Herdade do Esporão enjoys exceptional agricultural conditions. Approximately 40 grape varieties are cultivated on nearly 700 hectares of vineyards. In addition, they cultivate four olive varieties, orchards, and vegetable gardens. The Herdade do Esporão brand is built on a commitment to constant nonconformity, change, and creativity, which is particularly evident in its wines.
