Tapada de Villar Alentejo Tinto DO

Tapada de Villar Alentejo Tinto DO
An approachable Alentejo red wine from Esporão — full-bodied, soft and uncomplicated in the best sense.
Herdade do Esporão is one of Portugal's most renowned wineries. Located in the heart of the Alentejo region, the estate covers over 700 hectares, of which approximately 180 hectares are planted with vineyards on red schist soil. Since the 1990s, the winery has been synonymous with consistently high-quality, handcrafted wines—from their entry-level wines to their Reserva line.
The Tapada de Villar displays the typical profile of the region in the glass: dark cherries, blackberry, and a light smoky note from the oak barrel. The tannins are ripe and supple, the acidity moderate—making it enjoyable even on its own. The finish is short to medium-long, fresh, and light.
- Food: Grilled lamb, linguica, lentil stew or mature cistus goat cheese
- Temperature: 16–18 °C
- Drinking window: Now until 2026 — not a wine for aging, but currently enjoyable
