Tomatoes, basil, that's it — that's the recipe behind this classic sugo. The sauce comes from Italy and relies on a few carefully selected ingredients: ripe tomatoes, plenty of fresh basil, no unnecessary frills. That's precisely what makes it a reliable staple in the kitchen.

It unfolds its full potential most directly with spaghetti or linguine— cooked al dente, topped with sauce and Parmesan . It also works well as a base for shakshuka, as a pizza sauce, or for deglazing pan-fried vegetables. If you're drinking an open red wine with it, a light Sangiovese or a young Barbera is best, as their acidity complements the tomato notes without overpowering the basil's freshness.
