“Praephylloxera” Friulano Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC

A Friulano that shows what this grape variety can achieve when the vines are old enough to dig deep: Praephylloxera comes from own-rooted vines that have been in the ground for around 110 years – a rarity in Europe.

Antonio Bragato cultivates his vineyards in the Colli Orientali del Friuli , one of the most demanding white wine regions in northeastern Italy. The hilly clay soils with flysch components give the Tocai Friulano – the old local name for this variety – its characteristic density and mineral depth.

On the nose, peach, linden blossom, and rose petals, underpinned by a hint of marzipan and hawthorn. On the palate, it is full-bodied and smooth, with a texture reminiscent of old Burgundy. The acidity is present but integrated – no harshness, but rather an elegant touch that carries the long finish with its light tannins.

Serving suggestion: Serve at 12–14 °C. Pairs well with sweetbreads, risotto with porcini mushrooms, aged Montasio, or grilled sea bass with herbs. Best enjoyed between 2024 and 2030.
