“Praephylloxera” Friulano Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC

A Friulano that shows what this grape variety can achieve when the vines are old enough to dig deep: Praephylloxera comes from own-rooted vines that have been in the ground for about 110 years – a rarity in Europe.

Antonio Bragato manages his sites in the Colli Orientali del Friuli, one of the most demanding white wine regions in northeastern Italy. The hilly clay soils with flysch components give the Tocai Friulano – the old local name for this variety – its characteristic density and mineral depth.

On the nose, peach, linden blossom, and rose petals, underscored by a hint of marzipan and hawthorn. On the palate, voluminous and soft, with a texture reminiscent of old Burgundy. The acidity is present but integrated – no edges, but an elegant drive that carries the long finish with light tannin.

Serving recommendation: Served at 12–14 °C. Pairs with sweetbreads, risotto with porcini mushrooms, mature Montasio, or grilled sea bass with herbs.
