Paternoster Bariliott Aglianico del Vulture DOC
Aglianico from the Vulture is not light fare – but the Bariliott shows the more approachable side of this southern Italian grape variety: fruity, ready to drink, without the severity of older vintages.
Paternoster is among the pioneers of Vulture. The family winery from Barile cultivates volcanic soils at the foot of the extinct Monte Vulture in Basilicata – mineral-rich ash and lapilli soils at altitudes of up to 600 meters. The Bariliott is their entry-level wine: less complicated than the Rotondo, but with the same terroir foundation.
In the glass, it displays a dark ruby red color. The nose offers aromas of sour cherry, blackberry, and plum, along with hints of lavender and black pepper – typical of Aglianico from volcanic soil. On the palate, it is juicy and medium-bodied, with silky tannins and a mineral finish. Not a wine for aging forever, but approachable and with good substance.

- Goes with: Pasta al ragù, grilled lamb chops, caciocavallo podolico
Paternoster is one of the great names in the southern Italian wine world – rooted in Basilicata, the wild heart of the Italian boot. Here, at the foot of the extinct volcano Monte Vulture, the Aglianico grapes grow on mineral-rich soils, producing wines with depth, structure and unmistakable character.
What has distinguished Paternoster for generations is a consistent connection to the terroir – no trends, no compromises. The wines tell stories of earth, fire, and time.
