Oberrotweiler Henkenberg Chardonnay

Anyone familiar with Chardonnay knows that there's a world of difference between bland, buttery wines and those with true depth of terroir. The Oberrotweiler Henkenberg from Landerer clearly belongs to the latter category.

The Landerer winery is located in Vogtsburg-Oberrotweil in the Kaiserstuhl region – one of the warmest and driest wine-growing areas in Germany. Volcanic weathered soils of loess and basalt characterize the Henkenberg vineyard and give the Chardonnay a distinctive mineral tension that is still noticeable in the glass even after years of aging.

On the nose, it displays ripe yellow pear, white peach, and a hint of roasted almond – subtle yet present. On the palate, it is dense and creamy without being heavy: the acidity keeps the wine lively, and the finish carries a delicate spiciness and a salty aftertaste typical of Kaiserstuhl vineyards.

Landerer

Landerer Winery – this is Burgundy that tastes of volcanic soil. Literally. On the Kaiserstuhl, where ancient volcanic rock forms the soil, the Landerer family has cultivated their vines for generations. The Kirchberg, Eichberg, and Henkenberg vineyards give the wines something that can't be forced – it has to be allowed to happen. Johannes Landerer understood this early on. At 17, he planted his first vineyard, experimented in the barren rock, and developed his own style. In 2016, after the sudden death of his father, Thomas, he took over the winery – a heavy burden he bears with respect and passion. What drives him: that you can truly taste in the glass where the wine comes from. Vintage, soil, microclimate – everything should be perceptible. To achieve this, his team works in harmony with nature, consciously reduces yields, and gives the grapes time to ripen. Wine that tells a story. People who listen.
