Müller Thurgau Home
Müller-Thurgau has a tough time in Germany — undeservedly so. This wine shows what the grape variety can achieve in the right hands: fresh, aromatic, and easy to drink.
Kloster Pforta is one of the oldest wineries in the Saale-Unstrut region. The Cistercian monastery near Naumburg was already cultivating vines in the 12th century; today, the state-owned winery manages around 30 hectares on the steep southern slopes of the Saale Valley. The climate is continental and dry, and the soils of shell limestone and variegated sandstone impart a characteristic minerality to the wines.
In the glass, the wine displays a pale yellow color with greenish reflections. The nose offers aromas of green apple, a touch of nutmeg, and a hint of elderflower. On the palate, it is light-bodied with lively acidity, subtle residual sweetness, and a short, fresh finish.
