Since 1138, grapes have been growing here on the Saale, first under monks, today under the state winery, which continues their work with the same seriousness. The sites around Pforta are extraordinary: far in the north, on the 51st parallel, where the summers are short and intense. That is exactly what gives the wines their character – clear fruit, lively acidity, a mineral freshness that you recognize immediately.
