Marqués de Riscal Gran Reserva Rioja

A classic Rioja that showcases the strengths of the traditional style: firm structure, lively acidity and the typical depth of a long aging process.

Marqués de Riscal is one of the oldest estates in Rioja—founded in 1858, it was the first winery to introduce Bordeaux grape varieties and the French barrique tradition to the region. The Gran Reserva represents the estate's highest level of production: at least two years in oak barrels, followed by three more years in the bottle. Typically, Tempranillo forms the backbone of the blend, complemented by Graciano and Mazuelo.

In the glass, it displays the mature notes of a long aging process: dried cherry, leather, tobacco, and a hint of vanilla from the barrel. The acidity remains lively, giving the wine length; the tannins are mature yet present—a finish with spice and structure.

Serving suggestion: 16–18 °C, decanted 30 minutes before serving. Pairs well with leg of lamb, braised beef cheek, or aged Manchego cheese. Drinking window may already be open depending on the vintage—now or within the next two to three years.

Marqués de Riscal

Herederos del Marqués de Riscal is one of the most influential names in Spanish wine: founded in 1858 in Elciego, Rioja Alavesa, the estate was the first to systematically introduce Bordeaux winemaking techniques to Rioja – advised by Château Lanessan's cellar master, Jean Pineau. What began as a bold cultural transfer became an institution: the Reserva has been considered one of the world's most renowned Rioja wines for some 150 years, and since 1972, Marqués de Riscal in Rueda has demonstrated that Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc can be just as compelling as the classic Rioja red. More than 7 million bottles are exported annually to over 110 countries – tradition and vision united under one roof.
