M. Altenburger Gritschenberg Blaufränkisch
Blaufränkisch from Gritschenberg — one of the most distinctive vineyard sites in Burgenland's wine region, known for its deep clay soils and continental climate with hot summers and cool nights. It is precisely these temperature fluctuations that give the 2023 vintage its precise fruitiness combined with a fresh acidity.
Markus Altenburger is one of Burgenland's most uncompromising winemakers: minimal intervention in the cellar, no unnecessary technology. The Gritschenberg is produced as a single varietal and embodies everything that Blaufränkisch can achieve in a good location.
In the glass, it displays a deep garnet red color. The nose offers aromas of sour cherry, dark plum, and a hint of violet, underpinned by a subtle earthiness and a touch of black pepper—typical of the grape variety. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with firm yet well-integrated tannins and a lively acidity that ensures a long and fresh finish.
