M. Altenburger Gritschenberg Blaufränkisch

Blaufränkisch from the Gritschenberg — one of the most distinctive vineyards in the Burgenland wine country, known for its deep clay soils and the continental climate with hot summers and cool nights. Exactly these temperature fluctuations give the 2023 its precise fruit while maintaining a fresh acidity structure.

Markus Altenburger is one of the most consistent winemakers in Burgenland: minimal intervention in the cellar, no technical superstructure. The Gritschenberg is aged as a varietal wine and brings everything that Blaufränkisch can achieve in a good vineyard.

In the glass, deep garnet red appears. On the nose, sour cherry, dark plum, and a hint of violets, underneath a fine earthy spice and some black pepper — typical for the grape variety. On the palate, medium-bodied, with grippy but well-integrated tannins and a lively line of acidity that keeps the finish long and fresh.
