Laphroaig 10 Year Old Islay Single Malt
Laphroaig 10 Year Old is the classic among Islay whiskies — smoky, peaty, unmistakable. Once you've tasted it, you'll never forget this style.
The distillery is located directly on the south coast of Islay, just a few meters from the Atlantic Ocean. Laphroaig still malts some of its barley in its own malting floor—a rarity in the Scottish whisky industry. The peat, which smokes the barley during malting, comes from the island's bogs and gives the whisky its characteristic iodine profile. It matures for ten years in ex-bourbon casks made of American white oak.
In the glass, it displays intense notes of smoke, sea salt, and iodine—the classic Islay profile. Beneath this lies a surprising sweetness: vanilla, a hint of lemon, and light caramel. The finish is long, warm, and dry, with lingering peatiness. 40% ABV.
Neat at room temperature or with a small splash of still water—both bring out the full flavor profile. If you'd like to tame the smokiness a bit, try it over a large ice cube. A classic Penicillin cocktail makes a great addition.
