Achelo Rosso Cortona DOC

Achelo Rosso Cortona DOC
The Achelo comes from the Cortona DOC in southern Tuscany — one of the few Italian appellations that take Syrah seriously as its flagship variety. La Braccesca, an estate associated with the Antinori family, cultivates the vines on the clay-rich soils of the Chiana Valley.
In the cellar, a large portion of the wine matures in used barriques (second and third fill), which deliberately limits the influence of the wood: the fruit remains prominent, the structure is supported without being overpowered. The nose offers redcurrant and blackberry, along with peppery spice and a slightly smoky undertone—typical for Syrah in warmer climates. On the palate, it is smooth, with soft tannins and a lingering finish.
Best served at 16–18 °C. Goes well with grilled lamb, wild boar salami or a spicy tomato ragù.

La Braccesca lies in one of the most beautiful corners of Tuscany – where Montepulciano meets Cortona. Across more than 330 hectares of vineyards, a fascinating contrast thrives: the elegant Nobile di Montepulciano from old Sangiovese vines and the powerful Syrah of Cortona , which has found its ideal home in the clay-rich, hot soils at the foot of the city.
The estate has belonged to the Marchesi Antinori family since 1990 – and bears their signature: respect for tradition, courage to evolve. The underground cellars, where barriques and casks made of European oak mature, are symbolic of this. Wines that don't deny their origin – and yet tell its story anew.
