Kyrö Sauna Stories No. 2

A Finnish rye whisky that does not hide its character: the second edition of the Sauna Stories from the Kyrö Distillery in Isokyrö, Ostrobothnia, openly carries the spirit of the North in the glass.

Kyrö was founded in 2012 by five friends in an old dairy — with the goal of putting Finnish rye at the center. Rye is the heart of every Kyrö distillate: rougher, spicier, and earthier than classic grain whiskies made from barley. The Sauna Stories series is designed for small batch releases and reflects Finnish sauna culture — community, silence, intense warmth.

In the glass, the whisky shows the typical rye spice: bread spices, a hint of dill, dark caramel notes, and a dry, slightly smoky length in the finish. The texture is full-bodied, the finish lingering and warm.

Neat at room temperature, the aroma profile comes through most clearly — feel free to add a small splash of water to open up the spice. For those who prefer it more sociable: a simple highball glass with ice and a splash of water suits this style well. Not a cocktail that overpowers — this whisky needs space.
