Kirchenstück Riesling VDP Grand Cru

The Kirchenstück is one of the most famous Riesling sites in Rheinhessen – and this wine shows why: fruit-driven, profound, a pleasure already now, but with clear aging potential.

The site is ancient. Documented even before the Thirty Years' War, the Kirchenstück is located at an altitude of 150 meters on a plateau between two churches near Hohen-Sülzen. The soil of soft, calcareous stone gives the vines an even supply of nutrients despite the extreme lime content in the subsoil – a rare combination that gives the Riesling structure and accessibility at the same time. The oldest parcels date back to the 1960s; the average age of the vines is now 35 years.

In the glass, a clear, lively aroma: ripe white peach, citrus peel, and a hint of chalk in the background. The acidity is present but integrated – not a sharp cut, but a minerally underpinned line that carries the finish. Medium body, fine length.

Recommendation: Serve well chilled at 10–12 °C. Pairs well with zander with beurre blanc, goat cheese, or a classic tarte flambée with crème fraîche.
