Kaapzicht Chenin Blanc

Old bush vine wine from the heart of Stellenbosch – the Chenin Blanc vines of Kaapzicht have stood ungrafted in the soil for decades and produce very small harvests, which are immediately noticeable in the glass.

The Kaapzicht winery is located in the Simonsberg hills east of Cape Town and has been owned by the Steytler family for generations. The old bush vines – some over 40 years old – are cultivated dry and without irrigation, which forces the grapes to develop deep roots. The result is a Chenin Blanc with a density rarely achieved by younger vineyards.

In the glass, aromas of yellow pear, ripe pineapple, and a hint of quince emerge, underpinned by delicate notes of beeswax and toast. The palate is juicy with lively acidity that keeps the wine light-bodied despite its richness. The finish is lingering with a subtle mineral aftertaste.

Kaapzicht Estate

Kaapzicht was first mentioned in 1712 as "Friesland" and came into the possession of the Steytler family in 1946. The name was chosen because of the magnificent views of Cape Town and Table Mountain from the vineyard slopes. Kaapzicht Estate is a typical family business where all family members work together: A few years ago, Danie Steytler, a passionate, hardworking, and creative winemaker, followed in his father Daan's footsteps. His mother, Yngvild, is responsible for the worldwide export markets. The wines grown and bottled on the estate have been offered under the Kaapzicht label since 1984.
