Jura Single Malt 12 Years

A Highland single malt with an insular character: The Jura 12 Years comes from the Scottish island of the same name, which, with just under 200 inhabitants and a single distillery, is one of the most isolated whisky production locations in the world.

The distillery on the east coast of Jura has been operating since 1810 – with interruptions – and its style is characterized by tall stills, which produce a lighter, less peaty character than many of its Islay neighbors. It is aged for twelve years in ex-bourbon casks made of American white oak, finished with a period in used Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez.

The result of this combination is evident in the glass: the bourbon maturation provides vanilla, slightly sweet oak, and a hint of banana, while the sherry finish adds dried fruit, licorice, and a subtle spiciness. The smoky note remains gently in the background – more of a hint of sea air than peat. Medium body, smooth finish.

Accessible for beginners, yet complex enough for experienced palates. Neat at room temperature or with a drop of water – both bring out the fruity notes. A solid choice as an uncomplicated highball with ginger ale.
