Julius Treis Riesling Old Vines
Fifty-year-old vines on slate soil on the Moselle — you can taste it in the glass: The Julius Treis Alte Reben combines Riesling acidity with a depth that younger vintages rarely achieve.
The Julius Treis winery is a classic Mosel estate, whose vineyards lie on the region's characteristic blue slate soils. Old vines develop deeper roots, lower yields, and more concentrated grapes—the prerequisite for this style. Aging in oak barrels gives the wine structure and gently rounds off the acidity without masking the fruit.
The nose reveals ripe lemon, white peach, and a distinct slate undertone—that salty minerality that distinguishes slate-influenced Mosel Rieslings from others. On the palate, despite its power, the wine is delicate: firm acidity, medium body, and a long, mineral-fruity finish.
Served at 8–10 °C , it pairs well with grilled river fish, pike-perch with caper butter, or a mature Munster cheese. It also complements Asian dishes with ginger and lemongrass. Drinking window: now until 2030.
