Helan Mountain Changyu

A Cabernet Sauvignon from Ningxia, the wine-growing region at the foot of the Helan Mountains in northwest China. The wine shows how seriously red wine from China is now being made.

Château Changyu Moser XV was created from the collaboration between the Chinese wine house Changyu and the Austrian winemaker Lenz Moser, whose family looks back on a long tradition of viticulture. The Helan Mountains protect the vines from cold desert wind; the region offers plenty of sun, dry air, and barren soils. These are good conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, which ripens here with large temperature differences between day and night.

Typical for the grape variety are aromas of cassis, black currant, and bell pepper, along with notes of cedar wood and spice. On the palate, you can expect a structured tannin support and fresh acidity. We do not have precise details on the aging and vintage for this bottling, so we limit ourselves to what the grape variety and location typically bring with them.

Serve it at 16 to 18 °C. It goes with braised beef, duck breast with dark sauce, grilled lamb, or hearty Peking duck dishes with hoisin.

The Château

Château Changyu Moser XV

Château Changyu Moser XV stands for wine from China, specifically for a style of viticulture that sounds different from what you might expect. Our focus is on Cabernet Sauvignon, a grape variety you are otherwise more likely to know from Bordeaux or California.

The wines show how versatile this grape can be: dark berry fruit, a spicy note, and a structure that invites you to pair it with food. They go perfectly with a pot roast or a strong hard cheese.

You can currently find five wines from this estate in our shop. Try them out if you feel like discovering something new and compare the style with what you already know from Cabernet.
