Heger Pinot Gris Sonnet Dry

The Grauburgunder Sonett from Dr. Heger shows what Baden can do with this grape variety: an approachable, dry white wine with clear fruit and pleasant substance.

Dr. Heger Winery is located in Ihringen am Kaiserstuhl – a region of volcanic rock, abundant warmth, and a long growing season. The winery is one of Baden's most renowned producers, vinifying Pinot Gris in various quality levels. The Sonett is their entry-level wine, but by no means a compromise.

On the nose, apple, apricot, and pear, with a hint of almond and yellow blossoms. Medium-bodied on the palate, rounded acidity, dry finish without any harshness. Not a complex long-distance runner, but that's precisely what it's not meant to be.

Serving suggestion: Drink now, at 10–12 °C. Pairs well with asparagus with hollandaise sauce, fried pike-perch, tarte flambée or a summer antipasti platter.

Dr. Heger Winery

The Dr. Heger winery – a country doctor laid the foundation in 1935. Max Heger purchased fallow parcels of land on the Ihringer Winklerberg vineyard, and his son Wolfgang continued the business in the 1960s. Today, oenologist Joachim Heger manages the estate in the third generation – together with his wife Silvia. He has been chairman of the VDP Baden (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates) since 2009. In addition to the Winklerberg vineyard, the estate now also includes parcels on the Achkarrer Schlossberg vineyard – both classified as "Erste Lage" (Premier Cru) by the VDP. On volcanic weathered soils with a loess topsoil, wines with character, depth, and fine minerality are cultivated here. Top-class Baden wines that you can taste.
