Glenelly Lady May

The Lady May is the heart of Glenelly Estate – a Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon that bears the signature of its founder and offers aging potential for many years.

Behind the winery is May de Lencquesaing , former owner of Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande in the Médoc. After her time in Bordeaux, she founded Glenelly Estate at the foot of the Simonsberg in Stellenbosch – with the stated goal of producing Bordeaux-style wines from South African terroir. Lady May is her personal answer to this challenge.

In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red color. The nose offers aromas of cassis, black plum, and a hint of graphite, along with subtle notes of cedar and tobacco from barrel aging. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with fine-grained tannins exhibiting a rich texture, well-balanced acidity, and a long, spicy finish with hints of dark chocolate.

Recommendation: Decant and serve at 17–18 °C. Pairs well with pan-seared lamb loin, pot roast, or strong hard cheese. Drinking window: now until 2032+.

Glenelly Estate

Imagine: A French winemaker with over 30 years of experience in Bordeaux – she managed the famous Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande – embarks on a new adventure in South Africa at the age of 78. That is exactly what Glenelly Estate is.

In 2003, Madame May de Lencquesaing purchased a piece of land at the foot of Simonsberg in Stellenbosch . Here, French elegance meets South African sunshine. The red wines? Powerful and elegant with notes of cassis, plum, and cedar. The white wines? Juicy, round, and full of character.

A piece of Bordeaux in Stellenbosch that takes you on a journey with every sip. Try it – you won't regret it.
