Glenelly Estate was founded in 2003 when May-Eliane de Lencquesaing — long-time owner of Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande — established a new winery at the foot of the Simonsberg hill in Stellenbosch . With over three decades of Bordeaux experience and a keen eye for terroir, she chose one of the region's cooler, granite-dominated slopes — a location that imparts structure and freshness to the wines.
The red wines follow a classic European style: Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah ripen into dense, yet never heavy wines with aromas of cassis, plum, and cedar. The white wines—including Chardonnay and Viognier—display juiciness and depth without losing the freshness of the South African climate. Vinification aims to reflect, not override, the character of the vintage.
Glenelly represents a rare combination: the precision and patience of a Bordeaux-influenced winemaking philosophy, rooted in the young, vibrant terroir of the Cape Peninsula.
