Faustino VII Tinto Rioja

Faustino VII is Spain's best-selling Rioja — a classic that has shown for decades that quality and accessibility are not mutually exclusive.

Winery: The Faustino family has been cultivating vineyards in Rioja Alavesa, the cooler, higher-altitude part of the appellation near the Cantabrian Mountains, since 1861. The VII — the Roman numeral for the estate's seventh product line — is a Tempranillo with brief aging in oak barrels, intended for early consumption.

In the glass: Deep ruby red. On the nose, blackberry and ripe plum, along with a distinct hint of leather and tobacco—the typical character of mature Tempranillo. On the palate, the spicy, toasty notes emerge, which Faustino achieves through the targeted use of American oak. Medium-bodied, soft tannins, dry finish with a light vanilla note.

Recommendation: Best served at 16–18 °C . Pairs well with lamb chops with rosemary, chorizo, grilled chicken, or a robust Manchego cheese. Also a great, uncomplicated accompaniment to Spanish tapas. Drink now—not for aging.

Faustino

Bodegas Faustino is one of Rioja's leading wineries – founded in Oyón in 1861, now in its fourth generation of family ownership, and a global brand. The winery stands for patience and consistency: wines are only released when they have reached their perfect ripeness. Tempranillo, Graciano, Mazuelo, and Viura grapes thrive on approximately 650 hectares in the Rioja Alavesa region, in calcareous soil and a cool Atlantic climate. The Faustino I Gran Reserva is considered the world's best-selling Gran Reserva, and its distinctive label, featuring Rembrandt's portrait of the merchant Nicolaes van Bambeeck, has become a symbol of Rioja's excellence.
