Elena Walch Gewürztraminer

Gewürztraminer is South Tyrol's premier discipline — and Elena Walch is among the wineries that interpret this grape variety with particular consistency. The family winery, based in Tramin, the town that gives the variety its name, cultivates sites in the Überetsch and Brixental valleys and stands for a clear, varietal style without excess.

In the glass, it shows a fine golden yellow. The nose opens with rose petals and nutmeg, followed by a hint of lychee and white pepper — the aromatic density for which Gewürztraminer from this region is known. On the palate, it is full-bodied and soft, with a pleasant richness that is kept in balance by the dry, spicy finish. No heaviness, no sweetness — a Gewürztraminer that shows that aromatic richness and freshness are not a contradiction.

Best served at 10–12 °C. Classic companions: spicy dishes of Asian cuisine, blue cheese like Gorgonzola, or a goat cheese with honey. It also cuts a fine figure as an aperitif — especially if the group prefers aromatic diversity over a lean line of acidity.
