DIEL RIESLING GG DORSHEIM PITTERMÄNNCHEN

The Pittermännchen is one of the great sites of the Nahe – and Schlossgut Diel extracts a Riesling from this porphyry-slate soil that combines power and precision.

The Diel family has been cultivating the winery in Dorsheim for generations. The steep slopes around Schloss Wallhausen are among the most mineral-defining of the Nahe. The Pittermännchen – named after a goblin from regional folklore – stands for deep, structured Rieslings with a distinct site profile. Vinified as a Grosses Gewächs, spontaneously fermented, with a correspondingly long aging time in the cellar.

In the glass, initially a hint of caramel and malt – typical for spontaneous fermentation – behind it dried herbs, quince, and stone fruit. On the palate, then the actual character: firm body, dense acid structure, a highly concentrated mineral block with distinct saltiness. The extract sweetness remains subtly in the background, the finale is long, herbal-yeasty, and characterized by a dry, salty pressure.
