Château Pape-Clement rouge Pessac-Léognan

One of Bordeaux's oldest Grands Crus – and a vintage that demonstrates why Pessac-Léognan is among the most exciting appellations in the Médoc region. The 2017 Pape-Clément rouge is not a loud wine, but a precise one.

The estate boasts a history dating back to the 13th century – named after Bertrand de Got, the future Pope Clement V. Today, Pape-Clément is one of the few châteaux to be classified as a Cru Classé de Graves in the 1959 classification and to consistently operate at a high level. The vines grow on gravelly-clay soils south of Bordeaux, typical of the Pessac-Léognan appellation.

In the glass: Eucalyptus and black cherry on the nose, underpinned by tobacco and an earthy, almost graphitic minerality. On the palate, ripe, well-integrated tannins with a clear structure emerge – no weight for the sake of weight. The finish is long and accompanied by delicate spice notes.

Serving suggestion: Ready to drink now, with potential until 2030. Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs well with braised lamb shoulder, entrecôte with herb butter or mature Comté cheese.
