Chateau les Fontenelles Bergerac Blanc Sec

Bergerac has had its own appellation since 1936. It cultivates the same grape varieties as the Bordeaux region, occasionally supplemented by some indigenous varieties. The similarity to Bordeaux white wines is almost self-evident, although many Bergerac wines present themselves with a touch more finesse and depth than their larger counterpart on the Gironde. However, there are châteaux in Bergerac that produce wines of such high quality that many Bordeaux wines cannot compete, especially in terms of price. One such example is Château Les Fontelles. Located in the heart of the picturesque Périgord region, a large plateau in the southwest near Thénac, Château Les Fontelles holds the secret to the finesse and lush fruitiness of its Blanc Sec. Specifically, it employs the "élevage sur lie" technique, aging the wine on its lees in barrels for several months longer than usual, a method that has long been successfully used in the production of Muscadet sur lie from the Loire Valley. The wine retains its original flavor, so it stays very fresh and fruity for a very long time.
