Bergerac has had its own appellation since 1936. The same grape varieties as in the Bordeaux region are at home here, occasionally supplemented by some autochthonous grape varieties. The similarity to the Bordeaux white wines is almost logical to mention, although many Bergerac wines present themselves as slightly more elegant with finesse and depth than their big brother on the Gironde. However, there are chateaux in Bergerac that can produce such high quality that many Bordeaux wines cannot keep up, especially in terms of price. You can find such an example at Chateau les Fontelles.
