Cabriz Reserva Tinto

Nine months in French oak barrels – and yet the fruit remains the star. The Cabriz Reserva Tinto from the Dão region shows what central Portugal can do with its old Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz vines: structure without heaviness, depth without wood dominance.

The Quinta de Cabriz winery is located on the high plateau of the Dão, nestled between granite mountains at an altitude of around 500 meters. The cool nights ensure natural acidity and clear fruit – an advantage over the hotter regions of Portugal. The Reserva selection comes from the best parcels of the vintage.

In the glass, it shows dark cherry, blackberry, and dried plum, plus a hint of cedar wood and fine roasted aromas from the barrel aging. The palate is dense and full-bodied, with round tannins and a long, slightly spicy finish.

Cabriz

The Cabriz winery was founded in 1990 as Qunta do Cabriz. Around 1999, the winery opened, including the main building, Adão Dão Sul. In 2006, the name was changed to Cabriz, following a rebranding to "Selected Harvest" in 2002 aimed at achieving greater market penetration. In 2011, the Cabriz Colheita Seleccionada 2008 achieved 90 Wine Spectador points, earning a place among the magazine's top 100 wines. This success was repeated in 2016, followed in 2017 by Robert Parker's "Best Value Wines" award for the Colheita Seleccionada Tinto. Today, Cabriz offers a wide portfolio of Dão wines at a favorable price-performance ratio and has become one of the leading wine producers in the Dão region.
