Bibi Graetz Testamatta

Bibi Graetz Testamatta
A single-varietal Sangiovese that shows what old vines on stony Tuscan hills can achieve – the Testamatta is Bibi Graetz's most personal interpretation of this grape variety.
Bibi Graetz grew up as a painter at Castello di Vincigliata above Florence and began vinifying the overgrown old vines around the estate in the early 2000s. Today, he is one of Tuscany's best-known winemakers who came from other fields – with a style that combines classic craftsmanship with artistic freedom. The Testamatta, roughly translated as "mad head," comes from old Sangiovese parcels on stony, well-drained soils of the Chianti hills.
In the glass, it displays dark cherry, dried blackberry, and a hint of violet, underpinned by subtle spice and a mineral character. The tannins are present but ripe and silky – the finish is long, with an invigorating acidity typical of Sangiovese grown at high altitudes.
