Ayl KUPP "Stirn" Riesling "Fass 15" (off-dry) VDP. Grosse Lage®
The Stirn lies on the summit ridge of the Ayler Kupp – one of the most famous Saar sites – and is one of the most demanding parcels of the Peter Lauer winery. Steep, shallow, coarse slate: a terroir that forces Riesling to extraordinary depth.
Peter Lauer has been managing the Ayler Kupp for generations and is one of the defining names of the Saar. The old vines of the Stirn must root deep into the rock to find sufficient water and minerals – this costs strength and brings concentration. Fass 15 stands for the winery's traditional practice of aging its wines parcel by parcel in wooden barrels and bottling them individually.
In the glass, an Off-Dry Riesling appears with cool, salty minerality as a common thread. Aromas of white peach, citrus peel, and slate, underscored by a lively acidity structure that fully integrates the residual sugar. The finish is long, appearing dry, and characterized by a fine spice.
- Temperature: 10–12 °C
- Food: Grilled zander, oysters, scallops with butter sauce, or mild goat cheese
