Ayler Kupp "Kern" Riesling off-dry Barrel 9
From the oldest parcels of the Ayler Kupp – vines that have been rooted in the Saar slate since the 1950s. Fass 9 is a single-barrel bottling from Peter Lauer: unfiltered, full of character, with the typical tension between fruit and minerality.
The Ayler Kupp is located on the Saar, where the climate is harsher than on the Mosel. During the day, the slate rocks store the heat, at night cool air pulls up the slope – a natural temperature drop that sharpens the aromatics and preserves the acidity. Peter Lauer has been managing the site for generations, vinifying carefully by parcel and barrel, thus bringing the differences of the terroir clearly into the glass.
In the nose, passion fruit and gooseberry, underscored by a hint of slate. On the palate, the Riesling shows a juicy melt – the residual sugar does not appear heavy, but lifts the lively acidity and creates a long, fresh finish with a slightly salty-mineral note.
- Food pairing: Asian cuisine with chili and ginger, fried salmon with lemon butter, hearty goat cheese
- Drinking temperature: 10–12 °C
