Ayl KUPP Riesling "Barrel 18" GG

The Kupp in Ayl is one of the great Riesling sites of the Saar — and Faß 18 is Peter Lauer's direct commitment to this origin: a Grosses Gewächs that explores the tension between power and precision.

The Peter Lauer winery has been managing steep slopes around Ayl on the Saar for generations. The Kupp is located at the warmest, steepest part of the vineyard on weathered slate — a soil that transfers minerality directly into the wine. The barrel number at Lauer stands for a specific selection and aging in wooden barrels, which gives the GG texture and depth.

In the glass, the Riesling shows aromas of ripe mirabelle, white peach and citrus peel, underlaid by a clear slate note and a hint of beeswax. The acidity is present, but integrated — the mouthfeel dense and long, the finish salty-mineral with good length.

Serving recommendation: Serve at 10–12 °C. Goes well with zander fillet with butter sauce, smoked salmon or mature Comté.
