Lauer Riesling Barrel 13 GG tr Saarfeils

Lauer Riesling Barrel 13 GG tr Saarfeils
The Faß 13 from the Saarfeils site is a Grosses Gewächs that shows the cool precision of the Saar in its purest form — tightly structured, mineral, and with a depth that takes years to fully unfold.
Peter Lauer in Ayl is one of the style-defining wineries on the Saar. The barrel numbering is not marketing, but lived tradition: every wooden barrel ages separately, is evaluated separately — and only the best end up in the cellar as an independent wine. Faß 13 comes from the Saarfeils, a steep-slope parcel on weathered slate, known for its cool fruit and distinct minerality.
In the glass, citrus peel, white peach, and fresh herbs appear, underscored by a smoky slate spice. On the palate, the wine is taut and precise: a dense acid structure that never becomes sharp, salty tension in the middle, and a long, dry finish with fine bitterness.
Serving temperature 10–12 °C. Accessible now, but with significant aging potential. Pairs with grilled sea bass with caper butter, scallops, or aged Comté.
