Amarone della Valpolicella “Leòn” DOCG

The “Leòn” is an Amarone that shows what the Illasi valley in eastern Valpolicella is capable of: dense, warm depth that arises when Corvina grapes are dried into raisins for months using the Appassimento method before they slowly ferment.

Latium Morini has an unusual history: for decades, the family business delivered its produce to the local cooperative. Today, seven siblings and cousins run the winery together, independently producing Soave, Ripasso, and Amarone. The name refers to the Latii – Roman settlers who once developed the Illasi Valley as a wine-growing region. Archaeological finds during soil cultivation prove that vines have been growing here for two millennia.

The glass contains cherry jam and preserved red fruits, including violets, licorice, vanilla, and black pepper. On the palate, it is soft and full-bodied – the ripe tannins support the fruit without harshness, and the finish is long and spicy.

Serving temperature 16–18 °C . Pairs well with braised beef, venison ragù, or strong hard cheeses like Grana Padano. Aging it for two to three years will add further complexity.
