Altenbamberg Rotenberg Riesling GG

The Rotenberg is one of the best sites of the Nahe — and this Riesling from Altenbamberg shows why: dense minerality that is not claimed, but explodes in the glass.

The winery cultivates the Rotenberg on weathered variegated sandstone and slate, a combination that gives the Riesling this typical tension between fruit and salt. The Grosses Gewächs stands for the dry top-tier aging of the site — vinified with the ambition to let the soil speak, not the cellar.

On the nose, dried meadow flowers, flint, and a hint of quince. On the palate, firm body with distinct melt, ripe stone fruit, papaya, and candied citrus zest — all embedded in an invigorating acid structure. The finish is the heart of the matter: salty minerality builds up, condenses, and remains long on the tongue. Tart, deep, complex. Still a bit edgy now, but the potential is unmistakable.
