Altenbamberg Rotenberg Riesling GG

Rotenberg is one of the best vineyard sites in the Nahe region — and this Riesling from Altenbamberg shows why: dense minerality that is not asserted, but explodes in the glass.

The winery cultivates the Rotenberg vineyard on weathered red sandstone and slate, a combination that gives the Riesling its typical tension between fruit and salinity. The Grosses Gewächs (Grand Cru) represents the top-tier, dry expression of this vineyard – vinified with the aim of letting the soil speak for itself, not the cellar.

On the nose, dried wildflowers, flint, and a hint of quince. On the palate, a firm body with a pronounced creaminess, ripe stone fruit, papaya, and candied citrus peel—all embedded in a vibrant acidity. The finish is the heart of the wine: a salty minerality builds, intensifies, and lingers on the tongue. Herbaceous, deep, complex. Still a touch angular now, but the potential is undeniable.
